Choose Blessings Or Curses
It is not the resources that matter, it is the receiving capacity that matters. God is willing to bless you abundantly. But oftentimes we don’t have the capacity to receive it.
Many of our prayer requests are delayed because we are not ready to handle it. Will the parents of a child who is 8 years old buy him a bullet to drive just because he prayed for it? No. The parents will wait till the child grows up and gets his licence. Just like that God knows what's best for you.
Ephesians 3:20
‘Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,’
God is more than able to bless you. His resources are limitless. But he waits for the right time to fulfil your desires.
Galatians 4:1-2
‘What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father.’
Yesterday we learnt about the promise that was given in the book of Genesis which was fulfilled in the book of Joshua. The four books between these were a process.
In the book of Deuteronomy chapter 28, we read the tribes of Israel proclaiming out loud one side the blessings on those who obey the Lord and on the other side curses on those who do not.
Deuteronomy 28:1-14
‘’If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to him. Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you. The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.’
The earth and heavens are witness to this.
Deuteronomy 28:15-68 - the curses on those who disobey God.
God has given the choice of blessings and curses, life and death to you. It is your decision to make. God wants us to choose blessing and life.
Genesis 12:1-3 talks about the personal blessings.
‘The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
Deuteronomy 28 speaks about the material blessings.
Psalms 101 speaks about protective blessings.
Matthew 5:3-12 speaks about the blessing of the kingdom of God.
Ephesians 1:3-14 speaks about spiritual blessings.
Many people don’t like the name ‘Blessing Today’. They feel that those who go to Blessing Today go to receive blessings. They often say that blessings need to be given a backseat.
But that is not what God desires. He Himself gave us the choice to make - blessing or curse, life or death. And God is pretty serious about the choice you make.
Do not speak against the blessings of God. When you speak against God’s blessing, you are automatically choosing curse and death.
Summary
God has given you free will. God has not created us like robots. The decision is ours to make. You can either choose God or the devil. If you choose God, you need to proclaim it out loud - that God is your master and you are his child and that you have given your life to Him. Amen!
