How To Come Out Of Poverty
God can give us abundant and prosperous lives. We can come out of our poverty. Living in poverty is not a sin. If someone wants to live in poverty, God is not against it. Living in riches is also not a sin. But living in materialism is a sin. This is when you are greedy for money and value it and love it more than God.
Poverty can limit you in your lives. It can incapacitate you in meeting many of your needs and those of your family. It also prevents us from helping others too. It can limit us from doing what is desired of us by God.
Where does money come from and where does it go? It is printed by the RBI and reaches through banks, from where someone withdraws it and spends it, and reaches someone else, and the cycle goes on. A millionaire leaves behind everything when he dies. No one has ever taken money with them after their death.
In Jesus’ time, we read that Peter and Jesus paid taxes to the government. God does not desire that we live a life of poverty.
1 Timothy 6:17
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
Everything that God gives us, He gives for us to enjoy. Wealth is not bad, but the worldly system belongs to Satan.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
The ‘world’ here refers to the people that God loves.
1 John 2:15
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.
1 John 5:19
We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
The ‘world’ (cosmos) here refers to materialism and things of the world. The ‘world’ and its systems are under the control of the devil now.
God desires his people to live in abundance and in financial freedom. He wants us to enjoy what He has created for us. Jesus did not live here on earth in poverty. His ministry had funds and received donations, Judas Iscariot was taking care of the finances. He went for big meals at many homes. He blessed the wedding in Cana with the best wine. He wore costly clothes. He experienced poverty only on the cross.
Psalm 18:19
He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
God wants to give His children abundance in all areas both in the Old and New Testaments. But there are times, we go through persecutions but He always rewards us hundred fold.
Mark 10:29-30
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life
Only if God’s people have money, can we spread the gospel to the ends of earth.
Deuteronomy 8:17-18
And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
People both in the Old and New Testament need money to live on earth. It is God’s blessing to have wealth and it is He who gives us power to make wealth. When we follow God, everything will automatically follow us.
