This Is The Time Of Favour
We who believe in Christ Jesus and in His finished work - the birth, the life and ministry, the death, the resurrection and the ascension of Jesus; all of it brings us all under a New Covenant which is entirely different from the Old Covenant. The Old Testament is called so because it has been outdated and has no significance in our lives. We’re living in a distinctive era, the age of grace, wherein God’s approach toward mankind has changed and is based on love and what Jesus accomplished on the Cross for each of us.
Jesus preached the ‘good news’ (glad tidings) while on Earth, and it is too good to be true. It’s hard for some to believe that God forgives ‘all’ our sins. He bore our sins on the Cross and offered us amnesty, which is an official pardon to the entire mankind and our part is to believe in what Jesus freely gave us, though He paid it all on the Cross.
2 Corinthians 4:4
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
God created Adam in His own image and likeness so that he may rule over everything on Earth (Genesis 1:26); but Satan deceived Eve and imposed himself as the god of this world and has caused the unbelievers to be blind in their minds so that they cannot see the light of the gospel - the free gift of salvation which God offers unto all who believes and accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The gospel is light, which displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of the invisible God. Majority of the people are living in spiritual darkness as Satan substituted the gospel with religious beliefs, including Christianity; and we have the responsibility to bring such people into the light of the gospel.
John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Men began to multiply on the face of the earth and the wickedness of man was great upon the earth that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was altogether evil all the time (Genesis 6:1,5). God looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt; for all living creatures on the earth had corrupted their ways. God brought floodwaters upon the Earth and every living thing on the face of the earth was destroyed—man and livestock, crawling creatures and birds of the air; they were blotted out from the earth, and only Noah and those with him in the ark remained. And then God gave mankind the law, judges, kings and prophets in order to live righteously before God.
Galatians 4:4-5
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.
2 Corinthians 6:2
For he says, "In the time of my favour I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favour, now is the day of salvation.
Luke 4:18-19
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”
We’re living in the time of God’s favour, and in the day of salvation where salvation is offered freely to all mankind and anybody - any sinner or any criminal can be saved.
Chronos and Kairos are two Greek terms used for ‘time’. Chronos refers to minutes and seconds. It refers to time as a measurable resource. It is from this word that we get the term ‘chronology’.
Kairos means an appointed time, an opportune moment, or a due season. The time of God’s favour is a Kairos period which was not available in the Old Testament era as the promised Messiah had not yet come, and they looked forward to the Lamb of God in order to be saved. However, we who live under the New Testament era have to look back at what Jesus did on the Cross. So be it for any person in any point of history, they either have to look forward or look back to the Cross in order to receive their salvation. This is the time of God’s favour in your life and your situations will surely change!
