The Bible is the story of a Father and His children. All fatherhood comes from God! On earth, there are two kinds of fathers: Earthly/Biological fathers and Spiritual fathers. This means there are two types of parenting as well: natural and spiritual.
Matthew 5:48 “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
One of the specialities of our Heavenly Father is that He is perfectly perfect. He is perfect in all aspects. There is no other father who is as perfect as God. Every earthly father is imperfect. This means we need to improve and grow into the perfection of the Father. That is why Jesus instructed His disciples to be perfect even as the Heavenly Father was perfect.
The father is the foundation of a family and this fatherhood represents God the Father. There are many biological fathers in the world, but only few of them show real fatherhood. Real fathers are few. Many actually do not play the role of a father and we must understand that no one can substitute the role of the father. Accordingly, there are millions of fatherless children in the world and they carry this shame throughout their life. A child born out of wedlock also carries this shame. On earth, even Jesus did not have a biological father and he carried that shame too! The Heavenly Father is there to fill the gap of an earthly father.
If you are a father, you must function in this role. The role model of fatherhood is our Heavenly Father. The greatest gift a father can give his children is himself. He has to give his time, love, presence, companionship and friendship. Fathers must apply the nature of the father in their lives. In John 14, Philip cries out to Jesus to show him the Father. Philip was a representation of the entire disciple group and of all those hunting for a father on earth. This is the cry of every generation and nation; to see the father. Till we meet the Heavenly Father, we will not be satisfied and the main aim of Jesus coming to the earth was to show us the Father.
Malachi 4:6 “And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”
This is a great promise and prophetic utterance. This shows the condition of the world in the last days. In the end times, the spirit of Elijah will be ministering and the aim will be to turn the hearts of children to the father and that of the father to the children. The devil’s strategy is to bring breaches to the hearts of the fathers and the children. Once there is breach, the entire family breaks down and it brings a curse on earth. The spirit of Elijah will take away the breach and bring reconciliation. The nature and heart of the Heavenly Father is implanted in the earthly fathers.
A good earthly father :
Fatherhood is a great responsibility. It is easy to birth a child but it is difficult to be a father figure to his children. A father’s decisions impact/ affects future generations, so let us all aim to be perfect as the Father is!
