Revelation 7:2-3, says, ‘2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm earth and sea, 3 saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.”’
In this passage John the apostle is writing about the seal from God. An angel is sealing people in this context and this seal is from God. Throughout the Bible different kinds of seals are mentioned. Seal here refers to the fact that you are picked out, marked and branded for God. Seal also means that they are the possession of God. You are separated for him and consecrated for him. Since you are sealed by God, then it is God’s duty to protect and provide for you.
Revelation 14: 1-5 says, ‘1 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5 No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.’
In the verse 1 above, instead of a seal it is Jesus’s name and the Father’s name inscribed on their foreheads. Hence, the seal is essentially his name. Verse 2 also indicates that there are several musical instruments in heaven and creates a thunderous sound. Heaven is a musical place with newer songs written to worship the Lord and these new songs could only be sung by the 144,000 people on earth. These people were purchased from mankind, they did not defile themselves and were taken as first fruits for mankind. Also it is important to note that 144,000 is merely a number and may not be an exact figure but a representation of a large number. This large number of people were carrying the name of the Father in their foreheads. Again, this name may not be physically inscribed on their foreheads, but could mean that they had a deep and personal understanding of the Lord. They have received a revelation of Jesus and the Father and this revelation is possibly inscribed deep in their souls.
Revelation 13: 15-18 says, ‘15 The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. 16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. 18 This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.’
Revelation 7 and 14 talks about the seal of the Father. Revelation 13 talks about the mark of the antichrist. It means that people all over the world will either have the seal of Christ or the mark of antichrist. The devil’s markings are 666 and is the number of a man. There are several ways to interpret this number, but one thing for sure is that the devil just wants to make you another number. The devil will dehumanize people.
2 Timothy 2:19 says, ‘Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”’
Noone can shake the foundation laid by the Father and not a single soul can ruffle your feathers. Natural disasters or calamities cannot shake this rock solid foundation as it is laid by the Father himself. Infact, he himself is the solid foundation and cornerstone. This strong foundation is sealed by our Lord and he knows those who are his. Also everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must lead a life away from sins.
Ephesians 4:30 says, ‘ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.’
In the verse above, the seal referred to is the Holy Spirit and anything that the Holy Spirit wants us to know and live by, he inscribes them into our hearts. He can inscribe the Lamb’s name on us and can inscribe that we are redeemed. This seal of the Father gives us confirmation and assurance and you will never perish as you are marked by God.
