Allow me to ask you a question first.
If you are driving somewhere and you see Jesus on the road,
Where will you make him sit?
Will you make him sit in the front seat or in the back seat?
What you must do is give the keys to him and ask him to drive the car!
Because if God is in control of the car then you are safe.
When we call Jesus our savior then we must give the steering of our life to Him. We must ask him to chart our lives.
1 Corinthians 8:6
6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
When we say that Jesus is our Lord that rules out the possibility of having other gods.
When you have Jesus you don’t need a second or a 3rd god. You have all that you need.
A lot of people sympathize with the fact that Jesus was crucified and that they don’t mind worshiping him along with other gods.
What this verse means is that you need no other god If you have Jesus in your life.
He is not an additional god.
Just imagine you are a father or a mother and your child is not giving you any attention and instead is addressing others as their mother or father.
What will you do?
You will obviously tell your kid that you are his or her parent and that they must come to you!
This is exactly what God is saying!
He is the father!
You only need him, he is the one who is giving you your daily needs.
He also says that you should not go to any other gods!
So say Goodbye to all other gods!
20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
We should deny our own will and accept his will.
23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
It says that if you want to be a disciple of Jesus then you must deny yourself.
Some people leave everything to follow their Guru. They follow him, live with him and adopt the same lifestyle.
Denying our own will is important to follow Jesus!
One must crucify their own fleshly desires and look to Jesus as our Lord.
14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Apostle Paul has a lot of accomplishments in his life but he doesn’t boast in those things, he boasts on the Lord.
Our pride should not depend on our status, prestige or anything of this world.
We must deny the ways of this world.
The Bible says that the love for the world is against God.
The world is not a problem for God. It is the ways of the world, the culture, the traditions etc.
13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
We have to imitate Jesus in our lives and submit our lives to him!
