56. Lion of the tribe of Judah
Revelation 5:5 “Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.””
John the Apostle had a chance to see the heavenly things that had come and was to come. He also saw the slain lamb at the centre of the throne and a scroll with seven seals. There was a question as to who would open the seal. John wept as there was no one eligible to do so. But the elders tell him that Jesus is the one who has triumphed and He is the Lion of Judah, the only one capable of opening the scroll! In the Old Testament, whenever the twelve tribes camped, God gave them a layout which from a bird’s eye view looked like a cross. Judah means “praise” and among every tribe, God wanted this tribe to go first. Their flag had the image of a lion on it, and we see that Jesus is the Lion of Judah! Jesus was a descendant of the Tribe of Judah. God has given us this same nature as well and our attitude should reflect the same. There should be no fear in us. A big elephant is scared of a lion because of his muscle power and strength. A lion who is smaller than the elephant on the other hand, thinks of the elephant as a bulky animal who can be subdued. The problems we face today might look bigger than us, but we should remember that we are descendants of the Lion of Judah and can subdue our enemies! When we take the name of Jesus, all the other names will be subjected to it.
This title is used in many places!
Matthew 22:43,44 “He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’?”
Lord means ‘Adonai’ or ‘Master’ and it means the person has “lordship” over some things.
58. Lord of all
Acts 10:36 “You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.”
This means Jesus has lordship over ALL things!
59. Lord of Lords
Revelations 17:14 “They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”
There are many people who take the title “lord” on earth. There were many during Jesus’ time.
60. Lord of Glory
1 Corinthians 2:8 “None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”
He has lordship over all glory as well!
Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Accepting Jesus’ lordship is what gives us salvation! It is simple but the Lordship is significant.
61. Man of Sorrows
Isaiah 53:3 “He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
When Isaiah was seeing the passion of the messiah, he saw Him as a man of sorrows. Jesus is God, coming from the happy place that is heaven, and there is no need for Him to be sorrowful. There is joy in heaven and He is a joyful person. But when he came to this earth, all the sorrow that we experience was taken up by Him and he started to feel the sorrow on our behalf.
When you are in sorrow, Jesus understands it.
When His friend Lazarus passed away, Jesus wept along with his sisters Martha and Mary and cried. Jesus can still take up your sorrows!
