Luke 24.19 “So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people”
Many consider Jesus to be an ordinary prophet . But Jesus was more than an ordinary prophet. God gave Moses a promise that he would raise up a prophet from among his brothers, just like him. So the people were waiting for a prophet like Moses. Moses had been a great prophet who received messages from God face to face unlike others who received God’s word through dreams, visions etc. The people of Israel waited expectantly for ‘that prophet’. They asked the last of the prophets who came which was John the Baptist whether it was he that they were waiting for. But John denied saying that he was only the one who was sent to prepare the way for a One mightier than him. The One coming after him would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. And then HE came. He is ‘THE PROPHET’ who was mighty in word and deed that was similar to Moses who was not just a Prophet who prophesied but accredited by God with signs , wonders and miracles. Jesus too did not just prophecy, He did miracles, walked on water, stilled storms, turned water into wine, raised the dead etc. That is why He was called “The Prophet” who was mighty in Word and deed. The prophecies Jesus made are still being fulfilled. When He lived on earth, Jesus prophesied to individuals, nations, on escatalogocal events, His own second coming, the coming judgement etc. He knows everything and all things unlike the others who knows only in part. Hebrews 4.13 says ‘everything is naked and open to his eyes’. He knows all about us, even the things we don’t know
Jesus was known as a rabbi when he was on earth. There were many Rabbis during Jesus’ time. They were the keepers of wisdom and knowledge. People respected them. Jesus was an accepted rabbi , approved and recognized by them in a way that the rabbis would clarify their doubts with him. For eg, Nicodemus came at night to the ultimate teacher who knew all.
John 11. 25,26 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Even if a person who believes in Jesus dies, He will live because Jesus is the resurrection. To prove this, Jesus Himself died and He rose again to life. Before he died and resurrected to life, He declared that He was “The Resurrection”. He knew that He had the power of resurrection and He did everything with assurance and clarity.
Romans 8.11 says “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you”
Acts 7.52 Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered,
The Bible says there is no one righteous in the earth except Jesus who has a right standing with God and Man. Today for us to be righteous , we must receive His righteousness in exchange for our filthy rags. It is by faith we receive righteousness from the Giver of Righteousness. Jesus is the only one who is righteous, the one who has no sin or blemish or impurity in life. He is perfectly holy and into our unholiness / unrighteousness , He can give his righteousness or clothe us with the ‘Garment of righteousness’.
1 Corinthians 10.4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
The context is the wilderness experience of the Israelites which is a shadow of the things to come in the New Testament. For eg, in the wilderness God gave them water from the rock when they were thirsty. Paul says that the ‘Rock’ they drank water from was “Christ” in the New Testament. He specifically says that they drank from the Spiritual Rock that always followed them and the Rock was Christ. We can count on a rock as it is solid. So how much more can we count on our Rock which is Christ who never changes. We normally build the foundation of tall buildings on a rock. The Bible also tells us that a wise man builds his house on a rock. As a wise man/ woman of God, we must build our life on Christ, the rock. He is unshakeable even when the wind or storm or floods beats against the house. Whatever be the adverse circumstances, the house built on the rock which is Christ will never collapse. He is the Rock of ages who will never change through the years.
