Names and Titles of Jesus – Part 11

21 April, 2021

We can use the names and titles of Jesus that we are studying these days in various ways; you can confess each name and title in your personal prayers, not just from your mouth but from your heart knowing the meaning and significance of it. You can use these names when you are either fasting, or in your time alone with God; also when you are in a particular situation in your life, find a suitable name and apply it, meditate upon it, confess it and speak to your situation. You will surely see the results!

65. Mighty God

Isaiah 9:6For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah speaks here about the coming birth of the Lord Jesus. He says a “Child is born”, which is the human part coming forth that is Jesus and a “Son is given” means the Son of God, who is given to us not born or created, that is Christ.

Few names given in that verse : Wonderful, Counselor, and then says, Mighty God. There are many gods; but our Jesus isn’t simply a god, He is Mighty God. Many people even doubt today if Jesus is a man or superman. Not at all, He is mighty God!

66. Morning Star

Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

Jesus is so bright a morning star. When a morning star appears, that announces a new daybreak, a new season or a new era. When he appeared last time, that started a new era. It was like the rising of a morning star. The historians even now are dividing the history into BC and AD by the advent or rising of the bright Morning Star. The bright Morning Star will rise again – Jesus Christ will come again and that will mark the beginning of another era! So, Jesus is the bright Morning Star who can brighten your life, the history  and even the entire humanity.

67. Nazarene

Matthew 2:23 – … and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene.

After Jesus’s birth in Bethlehem, He was brought to Egypt for a while and then returned to Nazareth. Jesus grew up in Nazareth till he was 30 years. The Old Testament prophets had prophesied that He would be called a Nazarene – that’s because He lived in Nazareth. In those days, a small village population would sum upto maximum 200- 300 people. Nazareth was a very small, unimportant and insignificant place. People even used to scorn at that place; that’s why even Nathanael asked, “would anything good come from Nazareth?” But Jesus was the good thing that came out from Nazareth. Today, Nazareth is world- famous, attracting many tourists. Even today, when people cast out demons they say, “in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, come out!

68Only Begotten Son

John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

God has only one Son and the title ‘only begotten Son’ is mentioned in many other Scripture portions as well. We must never think about this aspect biologically or physically. We’ll learn about his Sonship – the real concept behind the Son of God in the perspective of God and the Scriptures later. Jesus is the only begotten son who declared God, whom no one had ever seen at any time.

69. Passover Lamb

1 Corinthians 5:7Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch–as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

This is a very meaningful name. For many centuries, a passover lamb was sacrificed every year in every Jewish home. That was all a shadow of the real Lamb of God coming down and being sacrificed. Here, Paul says that our Passover lamb has been sacrificed – which means no other human/ animal/ child sacrifice is needed; no more sacrifices at all other than the sacrifice of praise (Hebrews 13:15,16). When Jesus came into this world, He came as a Passover Lamb and He was sacrificed for all our sins. He became a sacrifice for us. Let’s accept that reality. Hallelujah!
