Moses & Jesus Part 4

18 September, 2021

We are continuing our study on comparing Moses with Jesus.

Identifying with the lowly

Exodus 2:11

“One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were and watched them at their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people”

Moses was adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter so he held the position of the prince and would have been the next in line to become Pharaoh. He excelled in martial arts and linguistics skills but he got an inner call to go down to deliver his brothers and the ones in slavery. This was his ministry.

In Jesus’ life also he was never ashamed to call us brothers even though he was the Son of God. He went down to the level of sinners

Philippians 2:6

“Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;”

The Great sacrifice

Moses and Jesus both made great sacrifices in their lives. They gave up their position to be among the needy and deliver them. Moses grew up as a prince but gave up that status to be with his brothers and deliver them. Jesus also was saviour to all people and he left the highest place from heaven to come down to earth to save us.

Rejection from their brothers.

Moses and Jesus came to save and dwell among their tribe and people but they rejected them .

Acts 7:28-29

The one who had started the fight said, ‘Who put you in charge of us? Are you going to kill me like you killed that Egyptian yesterday?’ When Moses heard that, realizing that the word was out, he ran for his life and lived in exile in Midian. During the years of exile, two sons were born to him.

Jesus also was rejected by many.

Luke 9:11

“but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God,and healed those who needed healing.”

John 1:11

He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

Turning to the Gentiles

Moses in Egypt was rejected to went to gentile province

Exodus 2:15

When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well.

Jesus was also rejected by the Jews and he went to minister among the gentiles. This season is called Time and Season of gentiles. We all are still in that season.

Both went near the well

Exodus 2:15

When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well.

Jesus also went to Jacob’s well.

Both Moses and Jesus received their brides from near a well. Moses met his wife Siphora at a well. Jesus also met with the Samaritan lady near the well which represents the church. Samaritan is a caste which is a cross of Jewish and Gentiles hence we can see this samaritan lady as a representative of church bride

Both became shepherds.

Exodus 3:1

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

Moses the prince who could have become the king became the shepherd.

Jesus too. He was the King of kings and Lord of Lord’s yet he became the good shepherd.

Both lived in a time of seclusion. Moses lived 40 years in the wilderness that helped season him for his ministry. It taught him patience. Jesus also after his 12th year he lived doing carpentry and all this helped him interact with people and later benefited in his ministry. There is a season of preparation for all of us. All have an anonymous time in which God prepares us.

Mission from God

Exodus 3:10

So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.

To take from bondages and slavery.

Luke 19:10

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

Apostleship

Exodus 4:11

The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute?Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?

John 9 :4

4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

Hebrews 3:1

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.
