A lot of people ask, “what will I get from making Jesus my Lord and following Him?”
Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
The first benefit is that you will be saved from eternal penalty! Instead of eternal punishment, we move to eternal life! Everyone on earth has sinned and none of us are righteous. We also know that the wages of sin is death and eternal punishment. At the same time, by the power of God’s Word and His grace, we are saved and receive eternal life.
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?”
When Jesus is your Lord, fear runs out of you and you will have no fears at all. David goes on to say that even if his parents abandon him, he has nothing to fear ( verse 10). When we read the story of David, we see that he was a neglected and rejected child. As the youngest and weakest one among his military brothers, no one paid attention to him. When he wrote the psalms, he sang that even when his parents reject him, he only needs Jesus who was his light and his salvation!
In Psalm 23, we see how God, his shepherd, led and guided him through life.
When Jesus is your Lord:( In the New Testament Jesus is our Shepherd)
Verse 1: He lacks nothing- God is our provider and everything is taken care of.: all our spiritual and material provisions.
Verse 2: He makes me lie down in green pastures- you will graze on the rich meadows of the Word of God when Jesus is your Lord.
We must read John 10 along with Psalm 23. Jesus is the good shepherd. He knows us all by name and is no stranger to us. He always gives us the best of things and protects us! He even laid down his life for us.
Verse 2: He leads me beside quiet waters- harsh waters are difficult for even great swimmers to swim in. However, calm waters give us joy by just looking at them! Jesus leads us to the peace and calm that comes from the Holy Spirit. He takes away our troubles and worries (turbulence) and replaces it with tranquility and peace. This is the journey we move towards when we have Jesus.
Verse 3: He refreshes my soul- Only Jesus can refresh and give your soul rest. Lot of people think our soul is at rest only when we pass away (RIP).
Verse 3: guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake- He will keep us in the right path! We will be guided along the paths of righteousness. We will not go the wrong way.
Verse 4: I will fear no evil, for you are with me- even when we walk through the darkest paths (tunnels), Jesus will be with us and guide us. He will bring us out of the tunnels. We have nothing to fear!
Verse 4: your rod and staff, they comfort me- the staff is used to bend the food towards the sheep and the rod is used to fight the predators and to discipline the sheep. All that God does is for our good and he will comfort us.
Verse 5: You prepare a banquet table before me in the presence of my enemies
Verse 5: You anoint my head with oil (fresh anointing); my cup overflows- He fills us with an abundance of blessings!
Verse 6: Your goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life
Verse 6: I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever- we find eternal love and goodness with Jesus!
Having Jesus as your Lord has so many benefits!
